Henry
Moyo
With the Lee University men’s soccer program
continuously improving and with a couple of its
players going pro this year, people may question who
is behind it all. The answer is simple: Henry Moyo,
Head Coach of the Flames.
Henry has experienced much of the world, from
growing up in Zimbabwe, to studying electrical
engineering in Germany, to gaining citizenship in
England. He earned his bachelor’s degree from
Overstone Bible College in Northampton, England,
then came to Cleveland to do graduate work at the
Church of God Theological Seminary. At the end of
his pro international soccer career and Bible
college time, he served as an associate pastor in
Manchester England. In 1993, he started helping out
with Lee’s soccer program and eventually was asked
to become assistant coach.
Henry began working with the women’s soccer program
then moved to the head coaching position for the
men’s program.
Along with coaching a successful athletic team,
Henry also teaches in Lee’s Department of Theology.
He feels that Lee’s policy of requiring all students
to take classes in bible and theology is an
excellent way to enable them, no matter their
denomination or religion, to engage and understand
the basic tenets of Christianity.
"It allows students to be aware, reflect and engage
theologically with what’s going on religiously
around them,” explained Henry.
Feeling that the community surrounding Lee was a
safe environment, Henry and his wife Pat felt
comfortable raising a family here. Themba is a
freshman here at Lee, Dumisa is a 7th grader at
Ocoee Middle School and Pat is a part-time
Instructor at Lee.
With his family happy and the soccer team winning,
things are good for Henry Moyo. And the news that
two of his star players had been drafted by pro
teams this spring was, in his words, “icing on the
cake.”
